Five ways to cosy up your guest room for Christmas.

It is starting to feel rather festive wouldn’t you agree; Christmas markets, M&S food treats, mulled everything, people popping by for a glass or two who end up staying the evening because they really did have one too many. I really love this time of year! One thing I love doing in the lead up to Christmas is getting the spare bedroom guest ready! Unfortunately, this year it is a little worse for wear due to the new build as we needed to pull up carpets, insulation and floor boards… but I really enjoy getting things looking cosy and hygge-like  in this room ready for any guest to pop by (more on that in a min!)

Here’s my five tips for getting any guest bedroom cosy for your friends and family this Christmas:

A really good set of pillows and a cosy duvet.

Make your guests feel like they are in a hotel and I mean the five star kind. I always try buy good quality pillows and duvets (preferably the feather kind) because a) Mr W has an absolute obsession with duvets and pillows and b) so our guests feel cosy and welcomed too! The Yorkshire Linen Company do some fantastic Hungarian Goose down duvets and pillows fit for a king or queen as well as Soak and Sleep.

Gorgeous Bedspreads and linen

Whether it’s plain, patterned or velvet (yes it’s a thing!) gorgeous bed linen and bedspreads will make any guest feel welcomed into your home and all set for a good night’s sleep. I’ve found some beautiful bedspreads from The Yorkshire Linen Company as well as a wild card from West Elm!

This gorgeous kilim bedspread from Yorkshire Linen Company is perfection, and would work wonderfully in our Drawing Room Blue guest room. The pattern adds a centre piece to the room and those gorgeous jewel tones will be welcomed into any colour room!

I love the subtle, delicate detail of this bedspread. It’s so pretty! I love clean white bedlinen think it adds an air of a hotel stay to your guest room. You can find this beautiful bedspread at Yorkshire Linen Company  side note – I am also totally in love with this room setting and makes me want to paint the guest room grey right now! (Husband, you with me?)

Want to go serious sumptuous in your guest room; how about a velvet bedspread? A little on the wild side, but isn’t this just beautiful? It makes me wanna dive right in!

Cushions and throws

To keep things cosy and welcoming make sure you have plenty of soft furnishing, cushions, throws and blankets. This is also a great way of updating the room without spending too much, with the large expense of Christmas coming up! The High Street and online have so many great pieces available. I love to store soft furnishes in sea grass basket or a H&M metal basket so guests can use them as and when they want.

I love this cosy blanket to throw stylishly over the bed (I faff for ever trying to make throws look perfect) You can never go wrong with cream, grey and woollen to keep those toes toasty and warm!

I love a cushion. I think they add fun, personality and a cosiness to any room! I love this metallic and velvet cushion from Oliver Bonas. They have lots of different colours, but this is so different and beautiful!

This grey bedspread is a little more heavy and structured, but would look so scandi on top of clean white bed linen to add a little pattern and interest to the bed!

Faux fur always adds a cosiness to any space. These cushions from Matalan are an absolute bargain! (They have some seriously good homewares in here at the moment, so worth checking out!)

Talking of all things Faux fur, West Elm always has the best selection of faux fur throws and this year is no exception. Just check out these beauties! I mean seriously! That chevron throw is just the best. I’m off to New York next week and there is definitely a cheeky West Elm trip planned. (I wonder how many of these i can add into my suitcase?)

Little treats

I’m a sucker for anything mini and I love to treat guests too! I always stash away my mini Molton Brown shower gels too add them onto guest towels. I always like to have a scented candle going so the room smells inviting as well as magazines next to the bed. These little touches will make your guests feel so welcomed.

Add a little touch of Christmas

A mini tree,  a baby poinsettia, some lights dotted around the room or go wild and have a branch of lights and baubles hung up in the room. Make your guests feel festive where ever they are in your home.

So I’ve taken my top five tips and tried to add a little of festive cosiness to my guest bedroom! I’ve kept the bedding clean and white (this set is from M&S but would swap it for the cute pom pom bedspread from The Yorkshire Linen Company  above in a heartbeat) I’ve added some fun cushions from H&M, added lights to the side table as well as a basket full of magazines and a throw for guests to use as and when they want to. Hope you like what I’ve done in the space to get it looking cosy for guests this Christmas!
