Sneak Peak… The Kitchen

I’ve been really bad at keeping my January goals (who’s with me on this?!) and my blogging schedule has gone out of the window but for good reason as the kitchen project has absolutely taken off. With Mr W home we have managed to complete so many tasks that were on the kitchen ‘to-do’ list. The kitchen space is already looking so amazing that I just had to share with you guys the progress we have made so far. There is still so much more to do (copper work top, flooring, the snug space and in particular the wallpaper!) but we are using the kitchen space so much and we adore it.

In my last blog post about Number Five’s transformation I shared with you the beginnings of the kitchen and how the space looked. I’ve now been able to take the space and really begin to transform it into an absolute dream. This post is rather snap heavy but I hope you don’t mind me indulging a little with this space we’ve created. I really do hope you enjoy what you see…

The kitchen looks a little different to the plan I had originally created. My vision was to have lots of open shelves, white hexagon tiles with black grout and copper accents throughout to bring in the copper worktop…kitchen-plan-1

The tiles were one of the major changes from the original plan; trying to find the perfect size and colour hexagonal tile was just an impossible task, every sample was either too big or not the right shade of white. We also tried micro-line tiles however they weren’t creating that magic that the space needed. So it was back to the drawing board or Pinterest as it’s now known in 2017, but I couldn’t find anything truly inspired me! I began scrolling through my 16,000 iPhotos to spark some inspiration and came across this wonder from Vienna; The Belvedere, here in it’s sugary (but not too much!) colours against the beautiful beginnings of a sunset was exactly the pallet that this room needed. I could see it working so well against the white and marble counter and it would hold it’s own against the copper top… now, the tricky bit – to find them!

After hours of searching and nothing quite right, Mr W and I took a trip to Topps Tiles too look for downstairs bathroom tiles (we know how to lead an exciting life!) and spotted a beautiful range called Wynter Hues in the perfect tone I was looking for. It was a magic mix of pink, blues and whites. I was sold.

We opted for a herringbone pattern to keep the space looking contemporary and to ensure that the wonderful different tones of the tiles were offset beautifully against one another.

We finished off the tiles with a grey grout again so the differing tones of the tiles would stand out. I’m so pleased with the end result. It is absolutely beautiful! The copper tap works so well as well as the faux marble top we have.

With the tiles looking absolutely wonderful it was time to put the finishing touches to this side of the kitchen. It was looking a little too simple for my maximalist vibe. The vision was to have number of open shelves so I could get my shelfie on, however when testing out the layout it just wasn’t working – it was too heavy. We really didn’t want to lose the idea of open shelves, so decided on having one large shelf running above the counter and the tiles.

It has made such a difference to this side of the kitchen, the shelf adds such a wonderful focal point in particular with all my bits and bobs displayed but also anchors the room. This side of the room felt a little lost with such a high ceiling and this just brings the eye down to the important pretty bit!
